Recognized by TIME Magazine and the White House Initiative United We Serve, Summer Advantage USA is impacting student and school district performance across the country. Summer Advantage raises educational achievement in its scholars by harnessing the power of summer learning. Focused on both academic and social development, the program offers five weeks of rigorous academic instruction in the morning and afternoon enrichment activities.
In 2012, Summit 54 sponsored the replication of Summer Advantage USA in Colorado with support from a Social Innovation Fund grant through Mile High United Way. 400 K-3rd graders in Basalt and Glenwood Springs completed the program last year, with a 98% attendance record. Based on results from the Iowa Test of Basic Skills, participating scholars gained an average of 3.6 months in reading skills and 1.7 months in math skills. This summer, the program will expand to a 3rd site in Carbondale and serve a total of 750 students. Summit 54 is optimistic that strong evaluation results will continue to be instrumental in attracting new partnerships and resources for the program’s long-term sustainability in Colorado.
